When finding the right teak door, remember that there are many different grades of wood under teak timber. There are three general grades of teak timber. The grade A which is the highest grade where the wood used is from the mature heartwood section of the teak timber. The color is usually “warm honey hue” and is closed grained. You can check the texture and you’ll notice that it is oily. There are two types of grain under grade A one can come from the Indonesian plantation which has a curvy grain the other is the Burmese Grade A with a straighter grain. The Grade B teak timber comes from the semi-mature outer heartwood of the teak tree. The color is quite lighter and duller. The grain is uneven and slightly shiny when sanded. The last grade which is Grade C is from the outer sections of the log. Since this area of the teak tree is where nutrients and water are transported the wood is much softer and patchy. It is also less durable than the previous grades.
